## In This Issue

- Your April compliance checklist: Q1 quarterlies are due, so don't get caught off guard.
- Tax holidays to know: Missouri, Texas, and what's coming in May.
- Platform updates: introducing custom analytics views.
- Customer story: how Symbiome put sales tax on autopilot.

This month, we hit a milestone we’re very proud of: automated sales tax, VAT,
and GST coverage across 100+ countries.

Our goal has always been to make sure sales tax compliance doesn't become a
barrier to growth. Every market we've added has reinforced the same lesson:
fragmented tools and local workarounds create real structural risk as you scale.

We're not done yet. Our goal is global coverage that empowers organizations of
all sizes to grow, even across borders.

## Your April 2026 Compliance Checklist

April is one of the heavier months on the compliance calendar. Q1 quarterlies
are due, monthly filings are on the usual schedule, and state revenue
departments are paying attention.

Between nexus reviews, return prep, exemption certificate refreshes, and
deadline tracking across multiple states, it adds up fast.

Download the April 2026 Sales Tax Compliance Checklist to keep your filings on
track.

## Tax Holidays

If you sell qualifying products into Texas, May 23–25 requires preparation
across two overlapping exemption categories. Start your product mapping now.

### Texas: Annual Energy Star Holiday

Qualifying products include Energy Star home appliances ranging from
refrigerators to lightbulbs. Water-saving products used for groundwater
conservation or ambient temperature reduction also qualify.

### Texas: Water Efficient Products Holiday

Any product displaying a WaterSense logo qualifies.

## Platform Updates

Most of our customers spend only minutes per month on sales tax. We're
constantly improving transaction processing speed to save customers even more
time: this month, we've reduced processing time to half what it used to take.

For high-volume sellers, this completely changes the game when it comes to
reconciliation, filing prep, and waiting time.

## Success Stories

Symbiome is a science-led skincare brand that's been a Kintsugi customer since
2022. Three years in, COO Adam Klausner spends less than 30 minutes a month on
sales tax compliance, including checking the dashboard.

Now, as Symbiome reaches nexus in new states, Kintsugi catches and handles it
automatically. The Shopify integration runs seamlessly in the background. Adam
is the only one who logs in, and rarely for long.

## Ask Kintsugi

Real questions from customers, answered by our tax experts.

### Does moving out of a state change the presence category?

If a customer is moving out of a state but plans to continue using that
state's address in the system, the correct category is **Telecommuting or
Remote Employee**. This ensures the nexus classification reflects the actual
situation, which matters for accurate monitoring and filing.

### Does inventory in a third-party fulfillment center create nexus?

Yes. Inventory stored in a fulfillment center creates physical nexus in that
state, which means registration is required in each state where inventory is
held.

Most states, with the exception of Alabama and Massachusetts, allow a future
start date on registrations. This means customers don't have to file $0 returns
before inventory actually arrives.

Have a question of your own? Ask in the comments, and one of our tax experts
will address it in next month's issue of Kintsugi Sales Tax Monthly.
