How Odoo connects to Kintsugi
Odoo runs your accounting. Kintsugi connects to your Odoo database and handles the tax, so you keep the setup you already have.

Connect Odoo
In Kintsugi, open Data Sources and choose Odoo. Enter your Odoo URL, database name, username, and an API key. We recommend a dedicated Odoo user for the connection.
Let the first sync finish
Kintsugi pulls in your customers, products, posted invoices, receipts, and credit notes. Set a start date if you want to limit how far back it goes.
Install the Kintsugi Tax add-on
On Odoo.sh or self-hosted Odoo 18, download the Kintsugi Tax add-on from Kintsugi and install it. Then add your Kintsugi URL, database name, and signing key in Odoo's Accounting settings.
Enable Tax Collection
Click Enable Tax Collection on the Odoo connection in Kintsugi. New invoices and refunds get Kintsugi's tax from then on.
What Kintsugi uses from each Odoo invoice
| Data | What Kintsugi does with it |
|---|---|
| Invoice and refund lines | Classified for taxability and used to calculate tax |
| Customer address | Used to find the jurisdiction and the rate |
| Fiscal positions | A fiscal position that maps sales tax to zero marks the customer as exempt |
| Sales tax (returned to Odoo) | Written onto the invoice by the Kintsugi Tax add-on |
Customer and product changes reach Kintsugi as they happen. Invoices sync on a schedule.
Who uses Kintsugi with Odoo
Businesses that keep their books in Odoo and want tax on the invoice instead of rates someone set up once.
Teams on Odoo.sh or a self-hosted Odoo that are selling into new states or countries.
How Odoo sales tax works
What Odoo does
Odoo is an open-source ERP and business app suite for accounting, inventory, ecommerce, and subscriptions.
Where it stops
Odoo applies the tax rates and fiscal positions you set up yourself. It doesn't tell you where you owe tax or file your returns.
What Kintsugi adds
Kintsugi calculates tax on each invoice and tracks your nexus. It registers you where you owe, then files and remits on schedule.
