Integrate Kintsugi with WooCommerce: A Seamless Fusion in Minutes

Learn how to connect WooCommerce with Kintsugi, reduce manual sales-tax work, and support accurate tax calculations across US jurisdictions.

Integrate Kintsugi with WooCommerce: A Seamless Fusion in Minutes

WooCommerce gives merchants full control over their storefront. That flexibility also means sales tax compliance is entirely on the store owner. Store owners have reported cases where WooCommerce did not charge sales tax on an order shipping to another state, even after tax rates and calculations were enabled. Across thousands of US tax jurisdictions, manual rate tables do not keep up.

Kintsugi connects directly to WooCommerce, so the store's customers, products, orders, and refunds sync automatically. From there, Kintsugi monitors where you have economic nexus, classifies your products, and handles registrations and filings, without a developer or a custom integration.

About WooCommerce

WooCommerce is an open-source ecommerce platform built on WordPress. It is free to install, and its flexibility has helped entrepreneurs of every size launch and grow online stores, from artists and authors selling their own work to brands shipping across the country.

About Kintsugi

Kintsugi is an AI-driven sales tax platform that automates compliance from tracking initial nexus exposure through accurate calculation and filing.

  • Ongoing nexus monitoring across every US state, plus VAT and GST in 100+ countries
  • Registrations handled for you and automated filings
  • AI product classification and address validation
  • Real-time tax calculation at checkout
  • Exemption certificate management
  • One system of record when you sell on more than one channel

How the integration works

  1. Connect. Create a read-only WooCommerce REST API key and add it to Kintsugi's Data Sources tab.
  2. Sync. Customers, products, orders, and refunds flow into Kintsugi, including your historical transactions.
  3. Review. Kintsugi classifies your products with AI and flags invalid or blank addresses for you to approve.
  4. Comply. Kintsugi monitors your exposure, tells you where to register, and files and remits on schedule.

Step-by-step: connect WooCommerce to Kintsugi

  1. In your WooCommerce store, go to Settings → Advanced and select the REST API tab.
  2. Generate an API key with Read permission. The key must belong to a WordPress user with the Administrator or Shop Manager role, or order and refund syncs will fail.
  3. Copy the keys. The consumer key starts with ck_ and the consumer secret starts with cs_.
  4. In Kintsugi, go to Data Sources → Browse Integrations, find WooCommerce, and select Connect.
  5. Enter your shop domain, your WooCommerce Admin URL, and the consumer key and secret, then select Save.
  6. Complete the Pending Tasks on your dashboard: approve product classifications and fix any invalid or blank addresses.

Your store now appears under Data Sources → Manage Integrations, and Kintsugi begins syncing your transaction history. If your store sits behind Cloudflare, a firewall, or a security plugin, allowlist Kintsugi's IPs first; the WooCommerce read-only integration guide lists them.

Calculate tax at checkout

The read-only connection covers data sync, nexus monitoring, and filing. To have Kintsugi calculate sales tax directly at checkout, install the Kintsugi plugin and follow the WooCommerce tax engine integration guide. The number your customer sees at checkout then matches what Kintsugi reports and files.

Why WooCommerce merchants use it

  • No more manual rate tables. Kintsugi keeps rates and rules current across every jurisdiction you sell into.
  • Nexus flagged before it is a problem. Kintsugi tells you when you cross a state's threshold and registers you where you need to.
  • Fewer manual errors. Transactions sync automatically instead of through exports and spreadsheets.
  • Filing off your plate. Returns are prepared, filed, and remitted on schedule.

Tax rates and rules change across states and jurisdictions, so this article is an educational overview rather than tax advice. Confirm current requirements and product treatment with the relevant tax authority.
