It's the last week of the month. Your finance lead is three browser tabs deep trying to figure out whether a new warehouse in Nevada changed your nexus, which of your Shopify SKUs got reclassified after last week's rate change, and why a Colorado order was taxed differently than the one before it.
She knows the answers live inside Kintsugi. She just wants to ask.
Today, she can. Say hello to Kin, the AI assistant inside Kintsugi, and the newest teammate for every finance and operations team managing sales tax, VAT, and GST through us.
What Kin does for you
Kin lives in your Kintsugi dashboard. It answers the real questions your team asks every day, in plain language, grounded in your own data:
"Where am I registered, and where should I be?" Kin walks you through your current registrations and flags jurisdictions where your exposure is trending toward nexus, or already exposed.
"Do I have pending returns?" Kin explains which filings are pending, including the jurisdiction, amount, and the date each is due.
"What do I owe, and when is it due?" Kin pulls up your filings by jurisdiction, shows what's due this week, and tells you what's already queued up.
You don't have to learn a new workflow. You don't have to build a prompt. You just ask.
How we built Kin to earn your trust
I've said this before and I'll say it again here, because it shapes every decision we made about Kin: trust is rented, not owned. You earn it day in, day out. In compliance, the moment you lose it, you don't get it back. A generic chatbot can't rent that kind of trust. It guesses confidently, and it guesses wrong. In our world, a confident wrong answer is worse than no answer at all. The tax code is not a vibe. You cannot hallucinate a filing deadline in Missouri.
So we built Kin around three commitments to you:
Auditable by design. When Kin tells you what you owe, which state you need to register in, or how a product got classified, it shows the receipts: the transactions, jurisdictions, and rules behind the number. If your CPA, your auditor, or your board asks "where did this come from," you have the answer before they finish the sentence.
Grounded in your data, not generic tax rules. Kin is grounded in your Kintsugi account, your transactions, your registrations, your filings, your rules. It doesn't just pull random opinions off the internet.
Built into the platform, not bolted on. Kin is native to Kintsugi, meaning your assistant and the compliance engine speak the same language, access the same data, update together, and adhere to the same high standards of security.
You're still in the driver's seat, on purpose
Compliance is a human judgment call in all the places software can't see. A warehouse opening. An acquisition. A new line of business that doesn't fit cleanly in any category. That's where your finance team earns their keep. We're not trying to engineer that away.
So today, Kin does not take action on your behalf. It answers your questions, surfaces what needs attention, drafts what it can draft, and flags what's uncertain. Then your team decides and signs off.
That's not a limitation we plan to quietly remove. That's the product. Later this year, we'll expand what Kin can do for you, starting with the repetitive workflows where the cost of being wrong is low and the cost of being slow is high. When we do, we'll do it the way we've built the rest of Kintsugi: on our own models, trained on the specific shape of tax data, with you in the loop until we've earned the right to do more.
What to do today
If you're already a Kintsugi customer, Kin is live in your dashboard right now. Open it up. Ask it the question that's been nagging you all week. Push on it. And tell us where it got things right and where it didn't, that's how trust gets rented.
If you're not a Kintsugi customer yet, this is the fastest way to see what your sales tax picture actually looks like. Connect your data and ask Kin the first question on your mind.
We built Kin for the people doing the work and we’re just getting started. Your feedback is going to shape every version of it from here.
