Kintsugi

Get registered, without doing the paperwork yourself

Once you owe sales tax somewhere (a crossed nexus threshold, a new warehouse, or a new employee), you need a registration on file with that jurisdiction before you can legally collect. Kintsugi prepares and files that registration for you, tells you exactly what it needs from your side, and tracks it until it’s confirmed.

Automated registration filing

What Kintsugi submits on your behalf

Kintsugi completes your sales tax, VAT, and GST registration applications and submits them to the right tax authority for you. You review the details and approve, and Kintsugi tracks each registration until it’s confirmed.

What we need from you

No surprises when you register

Kintsugi tells you what each registration needs before you begin. Most of it is filled in from your Kintsugi account and connected platforms, and anything unusual a tax authority requires is flagged up front, so you know what to gather before you start.

  • Legal business name and entity type
  • Government tax ID
  • Business address
  • The date you established nexus in that jurisdiction

Managing existing registrations

Already registered? Bring it with you

Import a registration you already hold instead of starting over, so filings pick up on the existing account. Kintsugi can also handle deregistration, where supported, and the final filings to close a jurisdiction.

International registrations

VAT, GST, and OSS: where the mechanism changes abroad

Outside the US, Kintsugi handles VAT and GST registrations, including the EU’s One-Stop Shop (OSS) scheme for sellers registering once to cover multiple member states.

Some markets (Mexico and Serbia among them) require fiscal representation, which changes who’s actually on file with the tax authority. Kintsugi handles this too.

Sales tax and use tax registrations

Two tax types, one registration workflow

Sales tax and use tax registrations coexist per jurisdiction in Kintsugi, each tagged and filterable by tax type, so you can see at a glance which obligation a given registration covers.

Timelines by jurisdiction

Some states confirm in days, others take longer

Processing time is set by each jurisdiction, not by Kintsugi, and it varies widely: some states confirm a registration in a few business days, others take several weeks. Kintsugi shows the status of every jurisdiction you’re registering in, so you’re never wondering whether an application is stuck.

Registration timelines: the fastest-confirming states take days, most jurisdictions 1 to 3 weeks, slower-confirming states several weeks

If you’re already behind, registering may not be the first step

Registering creates a record with the jurisdiction, and if you already have unfiled, unpaid tax exposure from before you registered, that record can trigger scrutiny of the period you weren’t compliant. If that’s your situation, the right first move is usually a Voluntary Disclosure Agreement or back filing, which can resolve historical liability on better terms than waiting for the jurisdiction to find it.

What registration doesn’t cover

Straight talk on what registration covers

  • Registration doesn’t guarantee approval. That decision belongs to the tax authority.

  • Registering doesn’t erase tax you owed before you registered.

  • Kintsugi registers you for sales tax, use tax, VAT, and GST. General business licenses and other non-tax registrations a jurisdiction requires are separate.
