How the Alaska calculator works

Alaska has no statewide sales tax, but many boroughs and cities charge their own, so the rate depends on where the buyer is.

Enter a ZIP code and the calculator adds up the state, county, city and district rates for it, multiplies your amount by the total and rounds the tax to the nearest cent. For the formula and worked examples, see how to calculate sales tax. Rates are as of September 2026.

Read the Alaska sales tax guide for what’s taxable, when you have to register and how to file. For other states, use the US sales tax calculator, and to split a tax-inclusive total, the reverse sales tax calculator.
