When you have to collect New York sales tax

A remote seller has to register and collect New York sales tax once its sales into the state meet the economic nexus threshold: $500,000 in sales and 100 transactions in the previous four sales tax quarters, per the state tax agency. A physical presence such as an office, employees or inventory creates nexus on its own. The New York sales tax guide covers registration and filing once you do.
